Parliament has been told that government will not legalise abortion. In an answer to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Mahalapye East, Botlogile Tshireletso, the Justice Minister Phandu Skelemani said that the statistics obtained from the courts over a period of eight years do not support the assertion that infanticide, attempted infanticide,

"For that reason I do not find the facts on the ground supporting the revision of the law prohibiting abortion. In this day and age where government provides free methods of contraception, I wonder why some of our people do not take full advantage of these and not risk unwanted pregnancies," read the minister's answer in Parliament.
