Govt suspends BOFEPUSU leader over 'Umbrella talks'

In what workerists say is a threat to union leaders who want to intervene in opposition Umbrella talks, the spokesperson of BOFEPUSU, Goretetse Kekgonegile, has been suspended from work.

The unionist, who is also the President of the Botswana Land Boards, Local Authorities and Health Workers Union, is employed as a Principal Social Welfare Officer in the North West District Council.

Recent media reports said BOFEPUSU was planning to intervene in the opposition talks between the Botswana National Front (BNF), the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and the Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) that have stalemated.
