Govt Security Officer Dismissed For Chewing

A security man at the Office of the President (OP) has lost his job after he was spotted chewing something during a recent meeting addressed by permanent secretary to the President (PSP), Eric Molale at Botswana Television. The officer (name withheld) was sent packing on the orders of the PSP.

It is reported that the PSP was not amused with whatever was in the security man's mouth. The PSP immediately instructed that disciplinary action be taken against him. "When the officer reported for duty the following day, he was served with a dismissal letter. He tried to pursue the matter through a lawyer, to enquire if there were no alternative measures apart from dismissal but in vain. It seems he has given up," a source said. The source added that the sacked officer is among the many civil servants who are unfairly treated by the government. He complained that they are not provided with transport irrespective of what time they knock-off.

He claimed that P90,000 went missing  from their burial society in 2007 but so far, the suspects have not been charged. "Two officers took our money and spent it. They were later promoted to a higher rank and we hear that the police have also withdrawn the charges against them," he said. The case was reported at Central Police Station in Gaborone, he stated.
