Govt recruits students as spies-Motlhale

Students have been recruited to spy on teachers who may say anything negative about the government, Parliament has heard.

This startling allegation, which was made by the MP for Ramotswa Odirile Motlhale last week, prompted the Assistant Minister of Education Keletso Rakhudu to vow to resign, should investigations prove the assertion true.  

Warning that this turn of events at public schools could compromise the quality of education, Motlhale said teachers who participated in the recent public sector strike were targeted for victimisation.  During ministers' question time, the MP for Francistown South, Wynter Mmolotsi, asked the minister what he was doing to address the acute shortage of teachers at the newly opened Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School.
