The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs Ikwathaeng Bagopi has said that to date 72 percent of the people enrolled on the beneficiary grants are women. Speaking at a workshop yesterday, Bagopi said that as part of their poverty eradication, the government has put women at the forefront to assist them whenever the need arises.

He said that the celebration of International Womens' Day should be used to celebrate women who occupy decision-making positions such as the Attorney General Athaliah Molokomme, the speaker of parliament Margaret Nasha and the governor of the Bank of Botswana Linah Mohohlo. He said women who are able to participate on the same platforms with men should be commended.Bagopi further said that government is working towards ensuring that both women and men are equal.
