Govt plans to water dry areas from Chobe River - PHK

MAUN: Government is provisioning to build a water carrier from the Chobe River to connect areas with critical water scarcity, former minister for Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR), Dr Ponatshego 'PHK' Kedikilwe revealed recently.

Addressing North West district councillors, Kedikilwe said this was part of the government plan to provide piped water to all citizens by 2016. He revealed that villages like Maun, Middlepits, Mamuno, Bobonong and Shakawe are facing dire water shortages.

Kedikilwe, who has remained with only the vice presidency portfolio after a recent cabinet reshuffle, added that government will use Botswana's riparian rights over the Nosop and Orange Rivers to  connect the Kgalagadi  District.
