Govt pays P10m to stop spy case

The case in which Dukef Holdings, a company that deals in military equipment was suing the police over the cancellation of a tender for the supply of spying equipment, is over.

 The case, which has been serving up revelations about the secret workings of security organisations including possible illegal tapping of phones, was brought to an abrupt end when government offered Dukef P10 million in an out-of-court settlement. The company dragged government to court for breach of contract
Dukef Holdings have been awarded $1,529,000 an equivalent of approximately P10,077,934.94 after the two parties consented to an out of court settlement early February. The government was further given 14 days to pay the legal fees of Dukef Holdings amounting to P300,000 into the trust account of Sadique Kebonang Attorneys.

In the order of the High Court, made by Chief Justice Maruping Dibotelo, the defendant, who is the Attorney General, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice Defence and Security, will pay the plaintiff the sum of $US1,529,000 together with interest thereon at the rate of 10 percent per annum.
