Govt officials deny knowledge of revoked petition

Officials from the Ministry of Local Government and Tribal Administration have denied knowledge of a letter that stopped public service workers unions from petitioning traditional leaders countrywide on Wednesday.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Thato Raphaka said he was not aware of such a letter, while his junior, Tumelo Seboko, deputy director of Tribal Administration, said as of yesterday afternoon, that he had neither seen nor known the source of such a letter.

Raphaka further said he had expected traditional leaders, as a matter of courtesy, to ask for advice from government, as their employer referred to in the petition, on how to deal with it.  "Bogosi is part of public office, my expectation is that they should know the way government is handling this," he said.
