Govt not inclined to subsidise the private sector - Seretse

The Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry Vincent Seretse has made it clear to the Member of Parliament (MP) for South East, Odirile Motlhale that the ruling Botswana Democratic Party government is not inclined to subsidise the private sector to train people, in this economic decline.

This came after Motlhale tabled a motion in parliament, requesting government to introduce a Youth Wage Subsidy Scheme as an incentive for the private sector to employ more young people. The MP's argument is that though there are existing programmes from the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Culture, government needs to come up with a better programme to the existing ones since he felt that these are not enough.

Although a number of MPs continued interrupting the minister on points of clarification, Seretse stood his ground.
