Govt helps BMC revamp operations

MAHALAPYE: With a P240 million government loan, the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) has been able to reduce fixed costs, increase prices and pay regional export parity, automate the plant as well as employ an implementation partner.

Speaking when he was officially opening the BMC Field office yesterday, Mahalapye MP and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Mompati Merafhe, said the loan has also helped BMC achieve abattoir competitiveness and best practices.

Merafhe added the interest-free loan has also enabled the BMC to identify its implementing technical partner from Australia whose experts started their two-year attachment in Botswana in September this year.
