Govt bends to favour KIA Motors

The Ministry of Transport and Communications which last year rejected the purchase of 176 units of KIA Motors and won the case in court, is bending to favour the troubled company and now seeks to negotiate buying the cars again.

However, the request by the ministry to have their latest action rubberstamped by the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) has been rebuffed, yet again throwing KIA Motors in further quagmire.Kia Motors hoped to sell 275 units of cars to government between August 2010 and October 2011, but only 99 units were bought, leaving the motor dealer in dire straights.

KIA Motors does not have a storage facility for the large fleet of cars, and the result has been that the remaining lot was left parked in open space at KIA Motors premises just outside Broadhurst along the A1 road. Last year a local bank announced it was ready to fund individual loans for the KIA Motors cars, but it would seem the appetite for the cars has been minimal.
