Govt accused of negotiating in bad faith

FRANCISTOWN: The spectre of the public service strike that paralyzed the country last year looms large again, according to the interim chairperson (Francistown Region) of the civil servants' umbrella union, Thatayamodimo Xhabue.

Speaking on the sidelines of a demonstration to hand over a petition to the District Commissioner by a horde of civil servants, the Botswana Federation of Public Service Unions (BOFEPUSU) official said the government has always negotiated with them in bad faith.

"You will have to realize that the strike never ended. It was merely suspended so we can resume it any time. Any time we are told to resume it; we will," said Xhabue.
