Government's decision to derecognise Bakgatla paramount chief Kgafela Kgafela was not only ill advised, but was equally unwise, hypocritical and undemocratic, Botswana Movement for Democracy leader Gomolemo Motswaledi told Mmegi after a meeting with Kgafela Tuesday.

"  It is very clear that dialogue was not allowed an opportunity," he said adding the decision was done in bad faith. He said while the cardinal clause that government used pertains to issues of public interest, government was not worried about public interest but its functionaries when it took the decision.

"The decision has so less to do with public interest and so more to do with government functionaries and public leaders. It's a clear case of bad governance," he said adding that there was opportunity for more fruitful discussions. That however was made impossible by government's refusal to dialogue with Kgafela.
