Goods train crushes donkeys

FRANCISTOWN: A north-bound goods train traveling from Gaborone to Francistown was involved in an accident at Shashe level crossing yesterday morning, Tonota station commander Superintendent Reuben Mphoeng has confirmed.

Mphoeng said the train crushed a donkey cart, killing three donkeys on the spot while another one suffered serious injuries.  He could not discuss what happened to the two passengers on the donkey cart, an old man and a child. At the time of going to press, details were sketchy as the police investigations were ongoing.

Meanwhile, Mphoeng disclosed that burglary and theft cases were rife in his policing area. In a week he said Tonota Police record about 10 cases. Most of the time suspects are arrested. We are working around the clock to normalise the situation," he said.
