Gloves off as unions' battle continues

Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) spokesperson Goretetse Kekgonegile has confirmed that they walked out of a meeting in protest at the presence of two other unions namely: Trainers and Allied Workers Unions (TAWU) and Botswana Government Employees Unions (BOGOWU).

The meeting, called by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM), was for the purpose of inviting all the seven recognised unions to a benchmarking tour on the Public Service Bargaining Council in South Africa.  This resulted in the five unions that comprise BOFEPUSU not being part of the benchmarking delegation.

"We were not consulted about the benchmarking tour. We are of the view that we needed to sit down for the employer to explain the places we would be visiting so that we choose issues that are relevant to us," Kekgonegile said.
