The Appalachian State University's Alumni Association presented its Distinguished Alumna Award to Boitshepo "Bibi" Giyose during its annual awards banquet recently. The award recognises her outstanding accomplishments in the field of international nutrition.

Giyose, currently living in Midrand, South Africa, graduated from Appalachian in 1989 with a degree in nutrition and dietetics.

"Boitshepo is the only person I can remember who knew what she wanted to do with her education when she graduated from Appalachian," classmate Bradley Hall wrote. "She was very clear on why she was in school. She would obtain her degree in nutrition and return home and help the people in her country overcome nutritional problems that they faced."
