The Department of Veterinary Services wishes to advise people that the heat wave affects both people and animals.

Water should at all times be available for animals, director of the department, Kgosietsile Motsu, has advised.

The heatwave causes a lot of stress on dairy cattle, which leads to little milk production. Chickens may also fail to produce eggs everyday as expected. Broilers will be lighter at sell time because they lose appetite during high temperatures and therefore fail to gain the required weight.
