A 15-year-old girl from Ikongwe village was stabbed to death on Christmas night by a 21-year-old man, after she initially knifed and injured a 23-year-old woman who is now hospitalised.

As police rushed to the scene to attend to the first stabbing and wounding report, they found the 15-year old suspect lying in a pool of blood with a deep stab wound.

Shoshong assistant police station commander, Superintendent George Mabuta, told MmegiOnline that police received the report around 0245hrs and raced to the crime scene only to find a case of murder.

"Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fight in both incidents,” he said. “The deceased initially stabbed the 23-year-old woman of the same locality with a sharp object on her right chest which landed the victim at Mahalapye Hospital where she is currently fighting for her life. “In a sudden turn of events, after stabbing the victim, the 15-year-old girl met her fate after she was also stabbed and died on the spot.”

Mabuta said the 21-year-old suspect has since been arrested and is in police custody for investigations.

The superintendent raised concern over some shebeens that operate beyond stipulated times, which he said fuels crime.

"The shebeen was open that late and we have since charged the owner with a P1,000 fine. “I am pleading with shebeen operators to obey the rules and regulations to help us curb crime, " Mabuta said.
