GCC to retain Mayor, deputy

It appears the Botswana Congress Party's (BCP) departure from the Umbrella will not affect Gaborone's local governance politics, where the opposition has always worked as a team.

While there has been a change of guard in some councils around the country, Gaborone City Council (GCC) is expected to retain Haskins Nkaigwa as mayor along with his deputy, Florence Shagwa, in the mayoral elections tomorrow.

Spokesperson of the opposition caucus at the GCC, Moselewapula councillor Ndiwaani Kenosi, said they will nominate and re-elect the duo of Nkaigwa and Shagwa. Nkaigwa is a Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) councillor for Babusi ward while Shagwa is a BCP councillor for Government ward.
