The Gaborone Transfer and Recycling Station (GTARS), the first project in a long-term partnership between the two cities, is regarded as a first step towards an integrated waste management plan, where waste is recognised as a job-creating resource.

To that end, a delegation from Vasteras is expected to arrive in Gaborone today for a week-long visit, in which the two parties will, among others, work on a detailed and final design for the transfer station and recycling centre. The two parties are also expected to conduct site selection for the anticipated transfer station and conduct a pre-feasibility and a feasibility study.
