GCC major resigns

Gaborone City Council (GCC) mayor, Veronica Lesole has resigned, state-owned Radio Botswana reported yesterday.

The radio reported that Lesole has resigned and released a statement thanking councillors and other stakeholders for their support in her job as mayor. But when contacted for comment, Lesole said she has not resigned. She said she was not aware of any radio announcement saying that she has resigned.

Lesole's position as mayor has become untenable after the Botswana Democratic Party lost its majority at the GCC.
