GCC D/Mayor against volunteer police in ipelegeng

Deputy Mayor of Gaborone City Council Haskins Nkaigwa has raised concern about the use of volunteer police, who are part of the Ipelegeng programme.

Speaking at a full council meeting on Thursday, Nkaigwa said he was concerned that with the police involvement in the Ipelegeng scheme, "we might be breeding future criminals who have inside information" about how the police work.

Nkaigwa said that volunteering for the police service might be an under-estimation of the service and its professionalism, which might have dire consequences in the future.
