Gabs taxi drivers declare war on pirates

Gaborone commuters may find themselves stranded next Friday when taxis and mini bus drivers plan to park their cabs to protest the evasion of their routes by pirates.

The drivers have vowed to disrupt services on Friday morning to hand over a petition to the Minister of Works and Transport, Lesego Motsumi, over the "illegal bus services that have been operating within the Gaborone routing system".

Gaborone Taxi and Local Bus Services Association chairperson Gibson Matenge yesterday blamed the department of transport and safety officers for allegedly sleeping on the job.
Speaking in an interview, Matenge stated that over the past seven years buses have been "coming through Gaborone from Ramotswa and Mochudi" picking and dropping passengers all over the city, thus interfering with the routing system.  "The officers at the transport offices, who are supposed to be doing their work of controlling the routing system, are just sitting on their work - and we have decided that enough is enough," said Matenge.
