Fury over Francistown abattoir closure

FRANCISTOWN: Satellite south councillor, Buti Billy, has expressed disappointment after Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) denied the councillors request to reopen Francistown abattoir.

Speaking last week at the full council meeting, he said the DVS decision is more painful than death because many people depend on the slaughtering of livestock.

In a report from the DVS, it is stated that the abattoir is not in good form and that it cannot be a slaughtering slab as it can endanger the lives of consumers and it has also indicated concerns over the safety of the employees.
