Fuel prices rise by 10t

Prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin rose by 10 thebe per litre this morning, with government citing increases in crude oil prices during February.

In a statement, Minerals, Energy and Water Resources permanent secretary, Boikobo Paya said average crude oil prices had risen by 10.4 percent between January and February, reaching a high of US$119.80 per barrel on February 24. "The increase in international crude oil prices is mainly due to the shutdown of Libyan production as well as fears that unrests might spread to Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries," Paya said.

"The government will continue to closely monitor the prices of petroleum products in both regional and international markets and ensure that adjustments are carried out appropriately."
