F/town residents 'shun' Valentine's Day

FRANCISTOWN: The importance of Valentine's Day has certainly not filtered to the general populace of Francistown as many believe it is a waste of time.

On the day, February 14, a mention of the phrase, 'Happy Valentine's Day' to most residents of Botswana's second city elicited a subdued smile, a shake of the head, a lackadaisical wave of the hand, or a mischievous comment like: "So what?" 

Newly promoted commander of northern police division, Assistant Commissioner Dinah Marathe spent the day moving to her new office and said she had no plans for Valentine. "I am moving into my new office today by the way. I have no time for Valentine's Day," she said.
