Four ministries get lion's share

Four ministries account for 71 percent of the total ministerial recurrent budget while the rest share the remaining 29 percent.

During the Budget Speech yesterday, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Kenneth Matambo, said the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security account for P20.2 billion. The Ministry of Education has the largest share of 27.3 percent at P7.77 billion. This represents a reduction from the ministry's P8.75 billion in 2011-2012 due to a reduction in the provision of bursaries for post-secondary education and savings from a decrease in the number of students placed in foreign institutions.

The Ministry of Local Government has been allocated the second largest share of 15 percent at P4.27 billion, representing an increase of 12.5 percent as a result of the transfer of HIV/AIDS activities from NACA to this ministry.  The Ministry of Health accounts for the third largest share of 14.6 percent at P4.17 billion, also due to the transfer of HIV/AIDS activities from NACA to this ministry.
