Foot Patrols Strengthen Crime Prevention

FRANCISTOWN: Foot patrols have been hailed as one of the best strategies of combating crime.

Tatitown Police Station Commander, Superintendent Seabe Maboka says it is through patrols that their aim of increasing and improving their visibility will be achieved. He stated that in his beat, they have intensified foot patrols and as such, his officers are always visible on the streets. "It is important to ensure that our officers are always visible on the ground as a way of preventing crime as opposed to dealing with the aftermath of crime that has already happened. Our increased visibility therefore is more of a preventative measure that is aimed at reducing chances of crime occurrence," he said.

Maboka noted that it is because of their focus on helping to prevent crime that they encourage and work hand in hand with the community through such initiatives as the neighbourhood watch and crime prevention committees. "These committees remain our pillar of strength in our endeavour to deal with crime. We continue to gain handsomely from such programmes in our war against crime," he concluded.
