Folklore, dance could help diversify tourism sector - UB don

A University of Botswana (UB) environmental economist has urged Batswana to help diversify the tourism sector to beat the negative impacts of climate change on the country's fauna an floral.

Speaking in an interview, UB lecturer Wame Hambira said that in order to succeed Batswana should start investing on a commercial scale in folklore, dance and music. Hambira and four others recently conducted a research whose objectives were to find climate change's impacts on the tourism operations. They also wanted to find out the approaches operators intend using to adapt to climate change.  The research was done in common tourist areas including Maun, Tsabong and surrounding areas of Werda, as well as Kasane.

"We used surveys to get their views. We made them fill forms in response to the questions we asked; and because the surveys are brief we also did interviews," she said.
