Fisher's cooler box leads to shooting incident

FRANCISTOWN: The High Court heard yesterday that former Botswana Defence Force (BDF) commander General Matshwenyego Fisher used military planes to transport fodder from Thebephatswa air base to his Boro farm in Maun.

Defence lawyer Lyndon Mothusi made the allegations in an attempted murder case saying that his client Koboyatladi Thero, a soldier, had complained about performing unofficial duties for Fisher. "I don't know. I hear that from you," replied state witness captain Comeck Lewanika, in the case in which Thero is facing three counts of attempted murder after a shooting incident. The court heard that the incident arose over a dispute involving Fisher's cooler box, which contained wine.

Mothusi said Lewanika, who was Fisher's escort leader, accused Thero of stealing the cooler box after a dinner hosted in honour of Fisher by brigadier Olekanye Mabengana. Lewanika denied the accusation.
