MOLEPOLOLE: Five women in the armed forces joined their male counterparts in the skies for the first time in the history of Botswana.

With four of them drawn from the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and one being a member of the Botswana Police Service (BPS) Airwing, they officially joined their male counterparts in the skies yesterday.

In total, 12 soldiers and three police officers graduated from Thebephatshwa Airbase, which is located 40 kilometres north west of Molepolole after 18 months of rigorous training. "This occasion marks a big milestone in the history of our nation, as this graduating class includes the first batch of women pilots in the history of the BDF.
This will go a long way towards the realisation of women empowerment in the work place in general and the uniformed forces in particular.
