Fire guts Tati Nickel mine lab

FRANCISTOWN: Matsiloje police are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted a laboratory at the Tati Nickel mine last Friday.

Matsiloje station commander, Superintendent Booker Osupile, said they are trying to establish what happened at the laboratory. "If it is a deliberate action, then it would be arson. But if it is a mere accident, then they (Tati Nickel mine) would apply internal mechanisms to get to the bottom of the matter," said Osupile who was not certain about the cost of the damage. Matsiloje police have questioned a number of people after the fire incident.

Osupile said yesterday that fire officials from the Francistown City Council (FCC) and the department of mines are helping the police with investigations. Tati Nickel divisional manager in charge of organisational capability, Peter Meswele said by that mid-week, they will have quantified the total damage caused by the fire.
