Fire damages Tachila Nature Reserve

FRANCISTOWN: Tachila Nature Reserve was extensively burnt by a fire on Saturday with the animals escaping mostly unharmed through the concerted effort of staff and security forces.

The animals at Tachila include the recently added 30 zebras, antelopes as well as the tortoises. "Yes Tachila was burnt down and 70 percent of it was affected. The affected areas are the poles of electricity, piping systems and reptiles. Tortoises were the most affected animals," said Mothusi Odubile, manager at the reserve.

He said antelopes, zebras and other animals were protected and were smart enough to run away from the flames.
