FCC moves to control fraud

FRANCISTOWN: Francistown City Council (FCC) has stepped up a campaign targeting what it calls imprest fraudsters.

"It's true that there is an ongoing exercise targeting FCC workers who of late were caught on the wrong side of the law. I don't have the numbers of those who are involved and the total amount in monetary value," FCC deputy clerk, Sonny Chiliwa said yesterday. However, he estimated that the sums involved are substantial.

He revealed that in one of the cases, a single person was found to have defrauded the FCC of about P31,000. "The exercise is continuing as we speak and it may mean that even the value might rise as well when we conclude the investigations." Mmegi has learnt that a good number of suspects are currently on interdiction while others are facing disciplinary action.
