Farmers Welcome Rain But Fear Unpredictability

Farmers in the northern part of the country have welcomed the recent rains with enthusiasm. The farmers are now gearing to start tilling the land, though with mixed hopes.

Some seem optimistic about the rains but others say they are ready for disappointments when the rains stop pre-maturely or cause floods.

One farmer says that in 2005, they welcomed the rains but the downpour was so heavy it destroyed crops. But last year, Manko Mpolokang says she was expecting rain and she prepared for ploughing, only for a drought to ensue.
