LOBATSE: It is very painful to watch your cattle slaughtered because government says they are diseased. So 30 Matshelagabedi farmers who did not want their animals slaughtered took government to court and hoped the court would stop the Department of Veterinary Services from its merciless act.

But the court threw out their case with costs. The judge, Lot Moroka, must have found the application too wanting as in declaring," the application for interdiction is hereby dismissed with costs," he did not even go into details. Now the 30 farmers are very bitter. The government has the support of its modern systems that have failed to protect them, they said. So they will resort to muti to protect their animals.

"A kere ka sekgoa sa bone ba re kgonne, re tlaa dirisa tsa Setswana jaanong gore re sireletse dikgomo tsa rona mo go goromente. Batho ba ba a re kgokgontsha mme gompieno ba tsile go se bona. Ga rena re lesa dikgomo tsa rona di bolawa fela jaana," one of the farmers vowed after the High Court dismissed their case.
