Farmers Reject FMD Fund Suspension

Speaking at a Kgotla meeting Agriculture Minister Christian de Graaf addressed on the suspension of the fund last Friday, farmers said government did not prepare adequately for the scheme.
The fund was meant for farmers to hypothecate their cattle during the FMD crisis in the area. Each cow was hypothecated for P1, 500 while P36 million was set aside for the entire scheme. So far the farmers have hypothecated up to 70,000 head of cattle, shooting the budget up over P100 million.
