'Factionalism' costs BNF Shoshong seat

Factionalism came back to haunt the Botswana National Front (BNF) as the party lost the Shoshong constituency which it had been tipped to win in the October 16 general election.

Speaking to Mmegi in an interview, Mogalakwe Mogalakwe, a former BNF member who stood as independent candidate, confirmed that he had worked against Aubrey Lesaso to make sure he lost to Phillip Makgalemele of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

"First and foremost, Makgalemele's opponent (Lesaso) does not know the people of the Shoshong constituency and I agreed to help him out. It was only when he started fielding his councillor in my ward that I decided to working against him," said Mogalakwe adding that Lesaso came to the constituency with a 'hidden' agenda.
