The convener of Umbrella for Democratic Change, Reverend Cosmos Moenga has said external forces do not want the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to lose power.

He said at the Botswana National Front (BNF) Youth League congress over the weekend in Thamaga that the BDP is still in power because of the support it gets from local privileged and external forces. Moenga who was presenting a paper entitled 'Cooperation of opposition parties is not all option but a must' said the economic power of the merchant class, both European and Indian as well African was marshalled to help put BDP in power.

He said BDP forces with their economic powers and technology are making sure that the party stays in power.  "In other ways, the external forces want to make sure BDP does not lose power," said Moenga.  He said it was from this background that the unity of the true patriot becomes imperative and the BNF was born and eventually became a united front for all patriotic forces in Botswana.
