Excuse my spelling...

Displayed on the back of combi's, buses and billboards is the tag line for the University of Botswana (UB) proudly reading as "Cum 2 UB and b u".

I was taken aback by this tag line not because I don't think one can go to UB and be themselves, but rather at the way the tag line is written. The spelling of it read to me as if someone (a very young someone) had sent a text, Instant Message or Facebook message to a friend.

This, to me was and is not the way that a tertiary educational institution or any educational institution, for that matter, should communicate to potential and current learners.   Is it not like standing in front of a room full of people at a formal event of some sort and giving a speech, the delivery of which being interrupted by errs, um's; slang, chewing gum and fiddling with hair?
