Ex-presidential guard gets 7 years for murder

FRANCISTOWN: Justice Moses Chinhengo has sentenced Tiisetso Kgankgetsile, a former Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldier and ex-president Festus Mogae's residential guard to seven years' imprisonment for murder and attempted murder.

On the first count, Kgankgetsile was sentenced to seven years in jail for murdering Mooketsi Radinonyane, a former BDF colleague. On the second count, he was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for attempting to murder Kagiso Selala and on the third count he received five years imprisonment for attempting to murder Tuelo Kwadiba. He committed these offences at Palapye on July 4, 2006.

"This is to say that both offences of attempted murder shall run concurrently with the sentence of seven years imprisonment on count one. This sentence shall include the 18 months the accused spent in custody pending the finalisation of this case," Chinhengo said last Friday.
