Ex-deputy director drags BNYC to court

Former Deputy Director of the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC), Sewedi Proper Mokgadi has sued the organisation for P579,225 citing unlawful dismissal.

In his court papers, Mokgadi, through his attorneys Bogopa and Manewe Attorneys, is claiming damages in the sum of P579,225 plus interest at the rate of 10 percent per annum. The Attorney General, Athaliah Molokomme is cited in the application as the second respondent, in its capacity as the principal legal advisor of government representing the BNYC, a sub-division of the Department of Culture in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.

In June BNYC dismissed Mokgadi following a disciplinary hearing in which he was charged with insubordination.Mokgadi was accused at the time of willfully disobeying Sport Youth and Culture Minister Shaw Kgathi's instruction of September 13, 2010 whereby he dissolved the BNYC board.
