Ex-city boss denies knowledge of Khama letter

Former Gaborone City Council (GCC) deputy clerk Molefi Keaja has denied knowledge of a letter from the office of the Vice President, Ian Khama that raised concern about the cleanliness of the city.

The letter dated December 22, 2003 was addressed to the then city clerk, Margaret Mabua.

It expressed discontent about the city council's incompetence in dealing with cleanliness.
"The year 2003 has come and gone but the appalling state of cleanliness of our city remains a concern." The letter said that the council has failed to keep its promises to clean the city. However, Keaja said in court yesterday that he was not aware of the letter. He was testifying in a case in which Frank Molaletsi an employee of the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism and three GCC employees, Gilbert Sithole, Frank Stegling, Daisy Loo company and its managing director Moemedi Dijeng are facing charges of conspiracy to defraud GCC, following a controversial tender award.
