SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) officials, who were serving a six-month prison term for contempt of court, may find themselves behind bars again if they fail to repay P144 155 78 to the union within 30 days.

Last week, Chief Justice Julian Nganunu ordered that the officials, who were incarcerated for disobeying the November 11, 2005 court order, repay the shortfall with 10 percent interest from the date of the delivery of the court order. Failure to comply would warrant an incarceration for a period of 40 days, as the said union officials shall pay the total amount.

Nganunu further stated that the release of the officials from prison, as per the court order of October 2006, did not affect their obligation to complete compliance with the previous court orders.
