Basinyi was the second man to be knocked out of the race before the residents settled on Keokilwe. Though he had accepted the offer to be headman, Basinyi was done in by the discovery that he was unconstitutionally endorsed. It became evident that the rightful candidate is Keokilwe because he is from Mogadingwane sub-ward that is senior to the one from which Basinyi originates. The matter came to light after Mogadingwane sub ward residents petitioned Malete chief Letlhogonolo Gaotlhobogwe demanding that he cancels Basinyi's endorsement.
Gaotlhobogwe confirmed to Mmegi that he complied. He said they held a meeting last weekend and he handed Mogadingwane sub ward residents a petition in which he acknowledged their argument and agreed with them on Keokilwe's name. "I have even drafted copies to all the recipients of Mogadingwane residents' petition to inform them about the change of name." Mogadingwane residents had warned that failure to cancel Basinyi's appointment will serve as a confirmation that Gaotlhobogwe will personally pay all the costs arising from a lawsuit they intend to file. They indicated that they can take the matter up with his supervisors to nullify the decision.
