Education Ministry tracks loan debts

Only P14.5 million has been collected so far out of the over P200 million that the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) is owed in unpaid student loans.

"Recoveries are ongoing and plans are in place to fast track this. Outsourcing is expected to help speed this up and the tendering process is at the final stage," says Sandy Mosarwa, public relations officer in the ministry. The tendering process is for debt collection services which MoESD is outsourcing to private sector companies.

The companies will trace and collect loans from beneficiaries. A tender was put out last year and is now at a stage where the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board is involved.
