Education may elude Botswana by 2016 - Prof Thapisa

FRANCISTOWN: Professor Amos Thapisa of ABM University College says Botswana may fail to become an informed and educated nation by 2016.

Speaking at the 2009 ABM graduation ceremony here last Saturday, Thapisa said achievement of the Vision 2016 was becoming increasingly difficult because Botswana was yet to develop capacity to deliver tertiary education as the country had a shortage of higher calibre teachers with masters and PhD qualifications.

"We are still reliant on expatriate employees who are also thin on the ground in the areas of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Travel, Tourism and Hospitality, Financial Management and Accountancy, Construction Engineering, Health and Medicine, Information Technology, and Transport and Communications, to mention but a few," he said.
