Earth Hour pageant to be held on March 16

Preparations for the commemoration of Earth hour, which will be on March 23rd, are underway.

According to Earth Hour coordinator in Botswana, Flora Mmereki, the event serves three mandates, namely, it is a global sustainability project, it is the largest climate change campaign across the world, and it makes a climate call on everyone to save the planet. Mmereki said Botswana is feeling the effects of climate change as there is drought and water is a scarce resource.

In addition, electricity in Botswana is generated from coal and should therefore be used consciously. She added that if people do not use electricity wisely, the monster that is climate change will swallow them up. Earth Hour is also meant to make sure that future generations have a good environment, Mmereki said.
