Five more cutting and polishing companies are set to join the Diamond Trading Company Botswana's (DTCB) list of firms with exclusive rights to diamonds originating from De Beers' mines.

In a statement yesterday, DTCB said the new firms would join 16 cutting and polishing firms, called sightholders, that won the first supply contracts at the organisation's establishment in 2008.  The additional firms mean more jobs for a blossoming industry that already employs thousands of Batswana.  The growth in the number of sightholders also sends positive growth signals on the development of Botswana as a global diamond centre.

The enlarged group of DTCB sightholders will also receive higher supply of diamonds from DTCB during the contract period, which is expected to result in stronger industry fundamentals.
