DRTS combats theory-testing backlog

The Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) has increased the pace of theory-testing for driving licence applicants to clear a backlog estimated at 5,000.

DTRS spokesman Amos Motshegwe said booking dates have been brought forward to avoid long waits. He informed those who were initially booked for theory testing at Mogoditshane from October 5-7 to report on October 5 in the morning at the Central Transport Organisation (CTO) Hall in Gaborone. He advised those booked to sit the tests from October 5 to December 31 to be on the look out for new dates at DRTS offices in Mogoditshane, Fairgrounds Mall, Maruapula, DRTS headquarters at BBS Mall and local newspapers.

"We are trying to address the issue of backlog, especially at the Mogoditshane office," said Motshegwe. He stated that they hope to help about 5,000 people in the new initiative as the DRTS moves to deliver efficient and fast services. Motshegwe said that public notices will be put up from this week giving new dates for sitting the theory tests. The initiative comes a few days after complaints in the media about poor service delivery at DRTS offices.
